“Super… ‘Man’. He’s not a man. He’s a thing. A creature with a smile and a ridiculous costume who somehow became the center of every global discussion. After his arrival, nothing seems normal anymore.”
Superman is a 2025 superhero film, inspired by the DC Comics hero of the same name. It is the first live-action entry and opening film in the DC Universe, the second chapter in Gods and Monsters, and the second time the Superman film saga has been rebooted.

Plot & Story

30 years ago, Jor-El and Lara sent their child, Kal-El, to Earth to escape the war on Krypton. He was raised in Smallville by Jonathan and Martha Kent and named Clark Kent. The sun gave him powers, and after seeing a message from his real parents, he became Superman. Three years later, he was working at a newspaper with Jimmy Olsen and dating Lois Lane.
After Superman stopped a Boravian attack, the U.S. feared his power. Lex Luthor, a wealthy and jealous man, claimed he could defeat Superman and used a weapon called the Hammer to defeat him. Superman returned to his fortress in Antarctica. Lex broke in, stole his parents’ message, and took his super-dog Krypton.
With the help of Green Lantern, Mister Terrible, and Hawkgirl, Superman distracted Lex when he stole the last part of the message. Lex broadcasted it worldwide, and it contained Superman’s parents saying that he should rule Earth. People were angry with Superman, so he surrendered. Lex locked him in a fake dimension with others, including Krypto.
Lex had created kryptonite to kill Superman, but was exposed when his girlfriend Eve Boravia revealed his secret deal. Mister Terrible and Lois rescued the hero but opened a black hole. As he approached Metropolis, Superman fought Lex’s clone, Hammer, and threw him into the hole. Lois and Mister Terrible stopped Lex and saved the world.
Lex was arrested. Superman’s cousin Kara comes to pick up Krypto. Superman was relaxing and watching old videos with his parents. Finally, Superman and Krypto look down at Earth from the moon. In a funny post-credits scene, he teases Mr. Tariff for fixing the city so badly.

Superman Review
The best part of James Gunn’s entertaining but uneven Superman is when Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) comes home to find Clark Kent (David Korenswet) making “breakfast for dinner” to celebrate their three-month anniversary. Clark says he’s hers. Lois says he’s hers. It’s a sweet, early moment in their growing relationship. Since Clark is also Superman, things get tricky — especially when he promises Lois a real-life encounter with Superman. Their conversation feels sharp, modern, and deep, as she questions his actions in stopping a war without U.S. approval.
There are many such smart, well-acted scenes in the film, though it’s mixed with busy CGI, deep drama, and a lot of cameos. Gunn portrays Superman as an immigrant icon but gives the film a fast-food feel — tasty, but not filling. Cornsweat and Brosnahan shine, but the fights feel like rehash of other superhero movies.
We leave the origin story behind and jump into a world where Superman is already a hero. But after a mission goes wrong, people start to doubt him. He’s even saved by his dog, Krypto, which adds a playful touch. Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor as a cunning tech billionaire, and his goofy girlfriend Eve (Sara Sampaio) adds the laughs.
New heroes like Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific join, but their back-and-forth jokes feel familiar. When Superman is arrested and thrown in a harsh prison, the story touches on real-world issues. Yet, he still remains kind – saving a squirrel in the middle of a war.
Ma and Pa Kent seem warm and real, and Korenswet is a strong Superman. But in the end, this version is more entertaining than surprising – and makes you wonder if we need any other ideas.
Is Superman Hit or Flop?
The film grossed approximately $438 million worldwide, making it the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2025, and received mostly favorable reviews. Critics described it as lively, entertaining, and sincere, although some felt it tried to do too much. The performances of Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Holt received strong praise.
