Plot
Madhukar “Madhu” Bhagala, a young college boy from a middle-class family in Udaipur, wins an eating competition and receives his prize from Parthvi Singh Rathod, a wealthy girl from a political family and also studying in Madhu’s college. His friend Purushottam later sees Parthvi bathing in a lake and tells Madhu. Madhu tries to impress Parthvi but at that moment she gets a little hurt. They slowly start liking each other.
Madhu goes back to her family’s small restaurant where her father tells her to stay away from Parthvi as her family is wealthy and comes from an upper caste. Madhu starts ignoring Parthvi in college, but she stops her and asks why. They both say they love each other and start meeting secretly. Madhu asks Parthvi for a kiss, but she asks him to come to her brother Roop’s birthday party. At the party, they kiss, but Parthvi’s father Ratan Singh Rathore catches them. Ratan and Roop beat up Madhu and her friends, but Inspector Shekhawat tells them to keep quiet and wait until the election is over.
After the election is over, Ratan wins and gets Madhu and her friends arrested on false charges. Parthvi pleads with her father to let Madhu and her friends go. During the argument, he picks up a gun and says that if Madhu is not released, he will shoot himself. Madhu runs to him and they run away together. The police chase them, but Madhu and Parthvi board a train to Mumbai. Madhu calls her uncle there, and the two go to Nagpur.

Dhadak movie review:
The playful tone that director Shashank Khaitan showed in his earlier films (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania), the same spirit that made this young pair shine, is missing in ‘Dhadak’. Johar’s strong way of creating emotions and sparks between two people, even small appearances full of emotion, is not seen here. A love story needs that emotion, and this film does not deliver it.
Except for a few small moments, ‘Dhadak’ does not have enough drama or real emotion. It puts loud background music under every scene to suppress the emotions, but it does not help. It does not work – not as a proper remake of Sairat, and not as a fresh Bollywood love story. There is no real ‘dhak dhak’ in this ‘Dhadak’.
Caste is a subject that always brings heat. And when a film presents it as a main issue, it should. But here, they say it a few times without showing what it means to be from a lower caste in today’s times. The film doesn’t try to delve deep into its sorrows or truths. It just stays on top.
