Plane Box Office Collection & Budget: All You Need to Know The Thriller
Gerard Butler has starred in 300, Olympus Has Fallen, Den of Thieves, and many other action movies over the years. But one of his new films has quickly become a huge hit on streaming. Butler is teaming up with Luke Cage actor Mike Colter in the 2023 action film Planes, about Brody Torrance (Butler), a pilot who ends up in a war zone with Louis Gaspar (Colter) after his plane crashes during a storm. Planes just landed on Netflix this week, and it’s already a hit, sitting at number three on the platform’s list of top films and it could be on the rise. Planes also did well in theaters, grossing $74 million on a $25 million budget, nearly three times its cost. It also received rave reviews – 79% from critics and 94% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s both “certified fresh” and “verified hot.”
In a 2023 interview with WGN News, Butler said that The Plane gives people a “fun break” from movies that are hard to follow. While it’s not uncommon for a Gerard Butler film to land in the top 10 on streaming, The Plane could also get a boost from the new live-action film “How to Train Your Dragon.” Butler reprises his role as the Viking Stoick, and the film is a fan favorite with a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. After watching “How to Train Your Dragon,” many fans are looking for more Gerard Butler movies and with Netflix being the biggest streaming service, The Plane is probably their first choice.

What Is The Highest-Rated Film of Gerard Butler’s Career?
Gerard Butler’s top-rated film depends on who you ask. The film with the best reviews from critics is ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ (2010), and its sequel, ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ comes in second. His highest-rated live-action film is ‘Mrs. Brown’, which you can rent on Prime Video for $3.79. Viewers say Plane is the second-best film of Butler’s career, coming in behind ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. Fans also liked Angel Has Fallen, although critics gave it poor reviews when it came out.
What Happens in Plane?
Pilot Brodie Torrence (Butler), a former RAF officer, flies a plane to Japan. During the flight, the plane is struck by lightning, and it has to land on a small island in the Philippines. After the crash landing, the plane’s radios stop working. The island is full of armed rebels who don’t like outsiders. To keep the crew and passengers safe, Torrence teams up with Louis (Colter), a convicted murderer who served in the French Foreign Legion. The airline calls in New York emergency specialist Scarsdale (Goldwyn) to come up with a rescue plan. But the rebels are closing in, and escape is becoming increasingly difficult. Can the three of them work together and get everyone out safely?
