F1 Box Office Collection: Brad Pitt’s High-Speed Hit Crosses $144 Million Globally
F1, also known as F1 the Movie, is a 2025 American sports drama film. It stars Brad Pitt as a race car driver who returns to Formula One (F1) after 30 years and saves his old teammate’s small team, APXGP, from closure. Damon Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem also star. The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski. Ehren Kruger wrote the script and the two helped create the story. Jerry Bruckheimer produced it. The three previously worked together on Top Gun: Maverick (2022).
The FIA – the group that runs F1 assisted in the film. They used actual footage from the 2023 and 2024 F1 races for the driving scenes. The film features real F1 teams and drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, who helped make it.

What Could Happen in an F1 Sequel?
Meet APXGP. Sonny Hayes and Joshua Pearce.#F1Movie only in theaters this SUMMER. #F1 pic.twitter.com/5vfujqAmIk

Well, Kosinski said that there’s more story to tell for our main characters, so there will be a new sequel after Sonny, Kate, Joshua, and the rest of Apex. By the end of F1, they’re in very different places — Sonny is racing the Baja 1000 in the desert. Joshua is still part of Apex. What happens to the rookie in the team’s next season, and could he play the role of his old rival?
“I loved working with this team. I had fun building our own Formula One team,” Kosinski told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m excited to see what’s next for APXGP and Sonny Hayes.”
Or, Kosinski was asked what kind of film he would like to make with Pitt and Cruise, who last starred together in 1994’s Interview with the Vampire. “Right now, it would be Cole Trickle Cruise’s Days of Thunder driver and maybe he and Sonny Hayes know each other,” he told GQ. “They were rivals at one point, maybe met on the track…” Pitt versus Cruise in a race movie? Most people would say no and it’s almost happened before, even with Kosinski directing.

The film grossed $146.3 million worldwide. It became Apple Studios’ first major hit and Apple’s first film to open at number one at the box office that weekend.
The F1 movie was released on June 27 and is doing well at the box office, but can it beat its huge cost? With a budget of $250 to $300 million, it is one of the most expensive movies ever made, even more than Top Gun: Maverick.
Variety says that “F1” is Apple’s first big box office win. Apple paid about $250 million to make it. (Apple says the cost was $200 million, but some say it was closer to $300 million.)
Forbes says Brad Pitt made about $30 million playing with Sonny Hayes, a racer who returned to the sport after being out of the sport in the 90s. In the early days, he made just $6,000 for Thelma and Louise.
