For The Indian Express, Shubhra Gupta gave the film 1.5 stars out of 5. She said, “Abhishek Bachchan, who played a good father in I Want to Talk, doesn’t seem all that natural in Be Happy. The story is mostly about dance and competitions, not the real lives of the people in it.”
Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com gave the film 2.5 stars out of 5. She said, “In the end, Abhishek’s quiet performance helps keep Be Happy balanced. Inayat’s energy is strong and could have taken the film a long way, but Abhishek holds it together.”
Tamma Moksh of The Hindu said, “Like most Remo D’Souza films, the film is full of dance, stage shows and Ganesh songs that try to solve all the problems. There’s nothing wrong with that idea, but the film still leaves the audience feeling that something is missing.

Be Happy Movie Review: Script Analysis
“Be Happy” begins with a small dream. Dhara, a beautiful little girl, wants to become a dancer one day. She lives with her father Shiv (played by Abhishek Bachchan) and her grandfather (played by Nasser). She is the only child in the house. Dhara looks up to Maggie Mem, a big dancer from Mumbai who trains children for the famous dance reality show called India’s Dancing Superstar.
Dhara and her father often argue. They don’t agree on her dreams, and she doesn’t study much. Dhara keeps trying to get her father to say yes. She even says things like “Mommy hoti toh kart” to make him emotional.
The story draws you in right from the start because of Inayat’s fun and cute acting. Nasser brings more life to the scenes with his sweet role as a loving grandfather. Abhishek plays the role of a father who is still grieving after losing his wife. He lives, but he doesn’t feel alive inside.
The story of “Be Happy” seems simple – a girl with a dream, a broken bond with her father, an attempt to fix things to achieve that dream, and a big moment that changes everything. But even if the idea is familiar, the way it conveys the emotions makes it feel real.

Be Happy Movie Review: Star Performance
Abhishek Bachchan literally shines as the struggling single father, trying to fill the void of a mother as well. In one of the scenes, his emotional breakdown is heartbreaking. But even his honest and sincere effort cannot save this ship that starts sinking in the second half! Inayat Verma is a show-stealer, though, personally, I have a problem with kids not acting their age, but I would blame that on the writing part! Nasser impresses, and even Nora Fatehi holds the story as much as she can! But none of them can help the story from falling!
Harleen Sethi, as the dead mother is refreshing on screen but does not add any value! In fact, even Abhishek Bachchan dances in one of the sequences, but it might have been the worst idea, to be honest! He struggles and struggles badly! And that struggle is visible on screen!
Be Happy Review
I love Bollywood because it makes me feel so many emotions, even though I am not from India. Most of the new Hindi films that have come out after Covid have no real emotion, except for a few films like 12th Fail and Lapata Ladies. But this film made me cry. I really cared about the people in the story, which is rare for films today.
The child artist did a wonderful job. Abhishek also did a very good job. The rest of the cast was also good. Even though I noticed Norah’s accent – and I don’t speak Hindi very well either, I just learned by watching a lot of Bollywood films – it didn’t bother me much.
The story wasn’t perfect, it had some minor problems. But after watching so many pointless films like Pathan, Fighter or Loveyappa (don’t judge me, I just wanted to see what Aamir Khan’s son could do), this film felt like the Bollywood I grew up with.
I wanted to relax while having dinner and chose this movie because I like Abhishek. And I’m glad I did. I didn’t feel bored or disappointed at all.
