Sitaare Zameen Par Budget, Box Office Collection, Cast, Release Date, Review, Hit or Flop
‘Sitare’ hides its emotional side from the start. Yet, Khan maintains the same bond with its audience. Billed as the successor to ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and taken from the 2018 Spanish film ‘Campiones’ (which also had an English remake in 2023 with Woody Harrelson), ‘Sitare’ follows the same path: it talks about understanding people who think or act differently. But it does this in a very predictable way. Every moment or memory in the film tries to teach us something or make us experience something deeply. A good Aamir Khan film should have a mix of fun and meaning. But when it focuses too much on the message, it starts to feel boring.

Plot
Ishaan is an 8-year-old boy living in Mumbai. He has trouble studying at school. Everyone thinks he hates studying and calls him a troublemaker. People always make fun of him. He had to retake third grade because he failed last year. Ishaan loves drawing and painting, and he has a strong imagination, but people ignore him. His father, Nandkishore Awasthi, has a good job and wants both his sons to do well. His mother, Maya, stays at home and quits her job. She gets upset because she can’t help Ishaan with his studies. His older brother Yohan is good at school and plays tennis well. Ishaan always feels small next to him, but Yohan still supports him the most.
One day, Ishaan skips school. The school calls his parents and tells them about his poor grades and bad behavior. The principal says that they should try going to a special school. But Nandkishore does not agree. He sends Ishaan to a boarding school. Maya and Yohan try to stop him, but he does not listen. Ishaan lives there very scared and alone. The teachers are strict and rude, and the situation has become worse for him. He makes only one friend – Rajan Damodaran. Rajan is intelligent and cannot walk well, but he works very hard. His father works in the school board, so he stays in the school. One day, Ishaan becomes so depressed that he thinks of ending his life. But seeing this, Rajan saves him. Later, Rajan tells him that the old art teacher, Mr. Holkar, has left. A new teacher is coming.
Ram Shankar Nikumbh joins the school that same day. He is a happy, kind teacher at Tulips School, where children with learning problems study. He takes the place of Mr. Holkar. Ram teaches in a fun and easy way. He finds Ishaan very sad and not drawing in art class. Ram examines Ishaan’s old work and sees signs of dyslexia. Ram goes to Mumbai and visits Ishaan’s house. There, he sees Ishaan’s hidden love for art. Ram shows Maya and Yohan how Ishaan struggles with letters and words. He also explains that Ishaan has poor control over his hand and body movements, due to which he cannot tie a string or play games well. But Nandkishore calls him lazy and says that it is just a silly excuse. Ram gets annoyed by this but remains calm.

Sitaare Zameen Par Review
‘Paar’ | Photo Credit: YouTube/Aamir Khan Talkies
A scene from the film ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ pokes fun at Aamir Khan’s usual message-laden style. A special children’s basketball team gets a chance to score a goal from a free throw. Their coach, Gulshan, keeps talking and giving advice. Satbir (Aarush Dutta) gets angry and shouts, “Sir, first you should calm down,” telling him to calm down. Aamir Khan, who often delivers strong lessons in his films, needs more bold characters like Satbir around him.
‘Aamir Khan’ interview: ‘No troll can stop a good film’
In 2007, Khan directed the film ‘Taare Zameen Par’, in which he played the role of a caring art teacher who helps a boy suffering from dyslexia in a boarding school. People loved how Khan taught them throughout the film. He wore funky clothes and spiked hair for the role. Yet, he looked like a hero with a sparkle behind him.
In ‘Sitare’, Khan initially hides that sparkle. But he still connects with the audience in the same way. The film is being called a spiritual sequel to ‘Tare Zameen’. It is a remake of the 2018 Spanish film ‘Campiones’, which got a Hollywood version in 2023 with Woody Harrelson. Sitare also wants to show how people with learning disabilities live and thrive. But the film offers too many lessons. Almost every scene teaches something. A good Aamir Khan film should have a mix of fun and learning. But here, it seems like there is too much teaching and not enough fun.
