Today is Friday the 13th, and something seems a little strange. Some people laugh it off, but many believe that this day brings bad luck. It’s the perfect time to watch a scary movie and enjoy a little chill.
The history of the 13th and Friday the 13th has always been terrifying. People have been afraid of this day since the Middle Ages. If you like horror, today is the day to play.
Horror movies never go out of style. Some are made in just one day, from morning to night, and keep you on the edge of your seat. Choose one that gives you a thrill and enjoy the ride.
Turn off the lights, grab your snacks and get ready to be scared. Whether you like ghosts, monsters or slashers, there’s a movie for you. Don’t be surprised if you jump out of your seat.
1. Halloween

Halloween is a slasher film that helped make this type of horror big in the US after giallo films became popular in the late 1960s. It’s a classic and a favorite for any scary night, especially Friday the 13th. John Carpenter directed and composed the music for this 1978 film. The original Halloween is about that terrifying feeling you get when you’re home alone and it feels like someone is lurking in the dark corners of your house.
The film follows masked killer Michael Myers. He escapes from a mental hospital on Halloween night. He then returns to his hometown and begins to watch as teenager Laurie Strode throws away the keys to her old house. It’s a really bad time, isn’t it? Carpenter creates the scares very well as Michael follows Laurie. The film has strong scary moments, some gruesome murders, and a killer who won’t stop and can’t be talked into. It’s the perfect Friday night horror film.
2. Late Night with the Devil

This fun horror film feels a bit like Ghostwatch. David Dastmalchian plays Jack Delroy, a late night TV host who hosts a Halloween special. One of the guests, Dr. June Ross-Mitchell, is a ghost expert. He brings in 13-year-old Lily D’Abo, who may be possessed by a demon. But not everyone believes her. Another guest, Carmichael Haig, wants to prove that Lily is faking it.
The film feels and looks like a 1970s talk show. It gives Dastmalchian a great lead role. Delroy is funny, friendly, but also a little scary, even before the weird stuff starts. The film is full of weird and scary moments. Towards the end, it gets really intense and terrifying.
3. Heretic

Directed by Scott Beck and Brian Woods
Heretic is one of the newer horror films on this list, but it has strong ties to older films. This is a solid choice that is well worth your time. Who would have thought that Hugh Grant and horror could work so well together? The story is about two Mormon missionaries who knock on Mr. Reed’s (Grant) door. They think they’ve found someone new to talk to, but things take a dark turn when Reed lets them in.
Grant plays the role of a great bad guy, using his usual charm in a scary way. He seems kind at first, but that makes him even more terrifying later. The film also shows the dark side of faith, which brings more tension and drama. It’s a smart choice for a fun Friday the 13th watch.

4. Totally Killer

Totally Killer is a funny horror film that loves old school slasher films and time-travel stories. If you like Scream or Happy Death Day, you will enjoy this one.
The main girl, Jamie, is back in 1987. She wants to stop the Sweet 16 Killer and save people before he harms them. She works with her mom in the past to save her mom in the future.
The film is fun and easy to enjoy. It feels fresh but still loves the old horror genre. That’s why it is one of the top movies on Prime Video.
5. You’re Next

Want a more action-packed horror film? You’re Next gives you 94 minutes of pure chaos, and I loved every second of it.
The story begins with a family meeting. But when some masked men attack them, the night turns scary. The family has to stop the killers and stay alive.
This is a good movie to watch with friends. I first saw it at Frightfest in 2013, and I still enjoy it just as much when I watch it alone.
6. Freaky

Freaky was released on Friday the 13th, which was a smart idea. I loved it so much that I now watch it every year, and it still feels fresh every time.
Body swap movies are fun, mainly because they get actors to act in ways we don’t often see. In this one, Vince Vaughn acts like a teenage girl, and Kathryn Newton acts like an adult murderer. And yes, it works really well.
It has great kills and some very funny parts. It’s a total slasher and my top Christopher Landon film.
7. The Strangers

Home invasion movies are a scary type of horror because they show how danger can come even in safe places.
In this one, a couple lives in a quiet house far from the city, but three masked men show up and ruin the night. They go through a long, scary war while trying to stay alive.
8. Dog Soldiers

Let’s watch some horror movies from other countries. I like these movies because they show places that we rarely see.
This movie is about a group of soldiers who are training in the Scottish Highlands. But things go wrong when they are hunted by a pack of werewolves. It’s a mix of action and horror and has a lot of scary and cool moments.
9. The Evil Dead

This movie changes you. It has a lot of smart and crazy ideas. It’s scary to watch but also makes you excited.
We follow a group of college students. Their weekend trip to a quiet cabin turns into a night full of fear when they wake up a monster. Sam Raimi’s cult film is a wild, bloody and fast ride.
10. Night of the Living Dead

This is another great horror movie. It inspired many new horror filmmakers to start. It feels strong and full of life.
George A. Romero’s bold film shows a group of people hiding in a house during a zombie attack. It started the zombie film genre as we know it today. Its ideas still feel true and strong today.
