Transformers One Budget, Box Office Collection, Cast, Review, Plot
Transformers One is a 2024 science fiction action film that tells the story of the origin of the Transformers. Set on Planet Natal, the film explores how Optimus Prime and Megatron began as close allies rather than enemies before they split up.
The film was directed by Josh Cooley and written by Eric Pearson, Andrew Bearer, and Gabriel Ferrari, who also helped develop the story. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm.
The idea for the film emerged after the premiere of Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2015. Paramount Pictures signed Akiva Goldsman to form a team of writers for new Transformers projects. Together, Bearer and Ferrari pitched the concept for an animated prequel set in Cybertron. The official announcement was made in 2017 and Josh Cooley was hired as director for 2020.
The animation was created by Industrial Light & Magic, featuring designs inspired by the original Transformers Generation 1 and the Art Deco style. The film’s soundtrack was composed by Brian Tyler, who brought energy and emotion to the story.

Plot
Cybertron is a machine world inhabited by intelligent robots called Cybertronians. They run on a power source called Energon, and many of them have cogs that allow them to transform into vehicles. Orion Pax, a mining bot without cogs, infiltrates a secret archive in the city of Icon to watch a film about the Primes – the first Cybertronians created by their creator, Primus. The guards find him, but his best friend D-16 helps him escape. Later, a worker named Jazz is trapped when the mine collapses. Orion and D-16 rescue him, but their strict boss, Darkwing, blames their team leader Elita-1 and takes her place.
Sentinel Prime, the ruler of Cybertron, returns from the surface after discovering the Matrix of Leadership, a powerful object that had disappeared and stopped the flow of Energo. To cheer up the people, he starts a race. Orion and D-16 secretly join using jet packs, hoping to prove that they can do more than dig. They come close to winning. Sentinel praises them, but Darkwing becomes enraged and sends them to the trash. There, they encounter a strange boat called the B-127 and discover a message from one of the Primes, Alpha Trion. He shares the coordinates of the map. Orion convinces the others to follow him, and they join him when Alita catches them leaving. They find Alpha Trion locked in a cave next to the dead Primes. After they bring him back, Tryon reveals that Sentinel betrayed Primes to steal the Matrix, but disappeared when Primes rejected him. He tells them that Sentinel made a deal with Quintessence to stay in power and deliberately took the miners’ cogs. Tryon gives them new cogs and a chip showing proof of Sentinel’s lies. But soon, Sentinel’s army arrives, takes Tryon, and kills him.
The team escapes but is captured by the Cybertronian High Guard – a group that once obeyed Primes but now fights Sentinel. D-16 wins their trust by defeating their leader, Starscream. D-16 becomes even more furious after learning the truth, so Orion becomes concerned. Sentinel’s soldiers attack again, destroying the chip. They capture D-16, B-127, and Starscream along with half of the High Guard. Sentinel tells D-16 that he stole his cog from Megatronus Prime and paints it with Megatronus’ face. Orion, with the help of Alita, brings Soundwave and Shockwave together to save their friends. Orion leads the miners to fight, while Alita plays Arachnid’s memory recordings to show Sentinel’s crimes. D-16 defeats Sentinel but argues with Orion about killing him. D-16 accidentally shoots Orion, causing him to collapse. He then kills Sentinel, takes Megatron’s cog, renames himself Megatron, and begins destroying the Icon. Primus and the Primes choose Orion as worthy and give him the Matrix, transforming him into Optimus Prime. He defeats Megatron, sending him and the High Guard away, and the Matrix brings back the Energon and Miner cogs. Optimus becomes the new leader, names his group the Autobots, and warns the Quintessence to stay away. After the credits, Megatron creates the Decepticons and declares war on the Autobots.

Review
Transformers One is the surprising debut of Optimus Prime and Megatron, who start out as brothers but end up becoming enemies. They work as small, hard-working miners on the planet Cybertron, stuck in a normal life because they don’t have the parts to transform.
But their big dreams – albeit dangerous ones – take them out of their dull underground work and throw them on a wild journey that begins a major transformation – and the entire Transformers story.
Transformers One is about real things like friendship, leadership, helping others, caring, strength, anger, and learning to forgive. It shows it all with amazing animated action and some good laughs too.
It’s nice to finally see a cartoon movie that doesn’t push that old, fake line – “You can do anything.” Sure, it sounds good to kids, but it’s not true. No matter how hard I try, I will never win a gold medal in swimming again, or ever be Chris Hemsworth’s massage therapist.
